It's mission is Close Air Support and Search and Rescue. - Aircraft: A-10 Thunderbolt II and A-10C precision engagement upgrade;
- Force Structure: 348 full-time employees and 975 military members;
- Future home of Air Force Joint Warfighting Headquarters including experts from personnel, intelligence, operations, logistics, plans/requirements, communications, installation/mission support, and programs/financial management;
- Capability to provide Battle Creek leadership in homeland security initiative;
- Federal and State missions and support;
- Existing land area and facilities have substantial capacity for additional operations or mission expansion, including 319.87 acres of property;
- One of two 10,000 ft. runways in western Michigan, and the only 10,000 ft. runway shared by a military organization.
- Training site for:
- Disaster response teams (city, state, and private);
- Michigan State Police;
- Michigan Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs Homeland Security Civil Support Team; and
- Local municipal fire departments.
- Only joint use airfield in southwest Michigan capable of handling the largest military cargo planes;
- Capabilities as an aerial port squadron facility; and
- New munitions storage facility in 2003, vehicle maintenance facility in 2003, and fire station.
