W.K. Kellogg Airport was cited by Business as the fastest-growing general aviation airport in the United States. Its supporting infrastructure endows W.K. Kellogg Airport with the characteristics it needs to serve as a catalyst for an emerging, vibrant economic sector in Battle Creek. It is located adjacent to Fort Custer Industrial Park and has a 10,000-foot runway that will accommodate any aircraft built today.
The airport is an alternate landing site for the NASA space shuttle and the only airport in West Michigan capable of landing Air Force One. Adjacent to the US Customs and Border Protection and Port of Battle Creek, the airport allows for dedicated international flight arrival clearances in a non-congested setting. W.K. Kellogg Airport offers robust telecommunications via an OC-48 optical Ethernet fiber ring, recently constructed by Battle Creek in a unique public/private partnership.
With convenient access to Interstate 94, the airport has D-Brite radar centrally located on the airfield and a state-of-the art air traffic control tower commissioned in 2005. Airport rescue and fire fighting services are provided by the Michigan Air National Guard, staffed 24 hours per day, everyday of the year, with FAA Index E capabilities. Snow removal is provided by a new fleet of ten heavy duty plows, blowers, and brooms. Electronic runway friction measurement and 40-foot Batts liquid runway anti/de-icing are available.
The airport is FAA Part 139 compliant, with airfield safety inspections daily and as conditions change. A wildlife hazard control program, airport emergency plan, and airfield driver's training program remain effective.
Premier fixed base operator (FBO) services, provided by Duncan Aviation and Centennial Aircraft Services contribute the mix of tenants on airport infrastructure which includes a 10,003 x 150 primary runway (5-23) and 4,835 x 100 crosswind runway (13-31) with instrument (ILS) and NBD approaches on runway 23 and GPS and VOR approaches for runway 5, 23, and 31.
Construction will be complete in 2010 for a 4,100 x 75 foot parallel runway, complementing a new administrative, operations, and maintenance facility and new mid-field entrance road.
